Contra Dances in western Massachusetts

If you haven't yet been to a contradance, we invite you to attend! Come alone, or bring a partner, family, or friends. The dances naturally mix everyone, and new dancers learn from experienced dancers. Contradancing is fun, social, and good exercise, and it's done in a smoke-free and alcohol-free environment. Best of's done to wonderful live music!

In South Amherst, there are contradances held on the 4th Saturdays at Munson Library, 1046 South East Street. The Fiddlers Green Contra Dances are held at Munson Library from 7:30-10:30pm monthly on 4th Saturdays EXCEPT in July, August and December. This series is especially designed to be welcoming and fun for newcomers and experienced dancers. Sit-in musicians are encouraged; snacks at the break. See for calender, directions and more.

A Wednesday night contradance series started in downtown Amherst in September 2010. For schedule and other info, see the Amherst Downtown Contradance website.

For a detailed schedule of upcoming music and dance events at the Guiding Star Grange in Greenfield, see the Friends of the Grange website.

The Rainbow Contra Dance of Western MA is a gender-role-free contradance that has moved to Northampton [as of January 2020] for the LGBTIQA Community and Friends. For more info visit the Lavender Country and Folk Dancers website.
